ACADEMIC ADVISING AND RETENTION
The Office of Academic Advising and Retention supports, complements,
and contributes to the principal mission of Francis Marion University,
which is effective teaching and learning. The office serves students
with a wide range of preparations and abilities by developing specialized
programs and support services to ensure academic success and helpful
academic advising. Each student is assigned an academic adviser
who assists in the planning and completion of the student's academic
program. Both the student and the adviser follow the Policy on Educational
Advising, a copy of which is available in the Office of Academic
Advising and Retention. Although each student is responsible for
the proper completion of his/her academic program, he/she is encouraged
to confer with his/her adviser throughout the year. Administration
of the academic advising program is the responsibility of the Office
of Academic Advising and Retention in concert with the Provost's
Office. Other programs administered by this office include orientation,
tutoring, the Comprehensive Achievement Program, and University
Life.
Many students enter the University having declared a major and/or
program of study. However, to declare a major/minor/or collateral,
or to make changes in these areas at any time during your course
of study, please stop by the Office of Academic Advising and Retention
(SAB 112).
