SEXUAL HARRASSMENT
It is the policy of Francis Marion University, in keeping with efforts to maintain
an environment in which the dignity and worth of all employees and students
of the University are respected, that sexual harassment of students, employees,
and visitors to the University is unacceptable conduct and will not be tolerated.
Sexual harassment may involve the behavior of a person of either sex against
a person of the opposite or same sex. As a place of work and learning for students,
faculty, and staff, Francis Marion University must be free of all forms of sexual
intimidation, exploitation, and harassment. All community members should be
aware that the University does not condone such behavior and is prepared to
take action to prevent and correct such behavior. Individuals who engage in
sexual harassment are subject to disciplinary actions which may include, but
are not limited to, oral or written warnings, demotions, transfers, suspension
without pay, or dismissal for cause or sanction under the student Code of Conduct.
Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination that is prohibited under
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for employees and under Title IX of
the Education Amendments of 1972 for students. The South Carolina State Human
Affairs Law also prohibits sex discrimination.
