ARRANGEMENT IN MILITARY SCIENCE: ARMY RESERVE OFFICERS TRAINING
CORPS (ROTC) WITH UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND MORRIS COLLEGE
Coordinator: William P. Fox
The Army ROTC program provides basic leadership and military skills
training resulting in commission of college graduates as Second
Lieutenants in the United States Army, Army Reserve and National
Guard. The University of South Carolina is providing an opportunity
for FMU students to take part in Army ROTC through a partnership
between FMU and Morris College in Sumter. Freshmen and sophomores
take the Military Science Class (MSC) 101/102 and MSC 201/202 (Basic
Course) courses respectively. These courses incur no military obligation.
Qualified juniors and seniors taking Army ROTC who sign contracts
receive monthly stipends from $350-$400 based on progression. Juniors
attend the National Advanced Leadership Camp the summer between
their junior and senior years. Juniors and seniors take MSC 301/302
and MSC 401/402 (Advanced Course) courses, respectively. A weekly
two-hour leadership lab is part of both the Basic and Advanced Courses.
Advanced Course students must meet a Military History Professional
Military Education course requirement as well. Successful completion
of the Army ROTC Advanced Course and degree requirements will result
in the student being commissioned as an officer.
May count four hours of course credit as electives toward a Francis
Marion University degree.
