REQUIREMENTS FOR MASTER OF EDUCATION DEGREE AND MASTER OF ARTS IN TEACHING
DEGREE
To receive the Master of Education or Master of Arts in Teaching degree from
Francis Marion University, a student must fulfill the following requirements:
1. Complete the number of graduate hours, prerequisites and corequisites where
applicable, and specific courses required in the student's approved program.
2. Achieve a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on all graduate studies applicable
to the student's program and a 3.0 overall grade point average for all graduate
courses. (See exceptions under Repeating Courses and Time Limit.)
3. Satisfactorily complete all other requirements as outlined for graduate
students earlier.
4. For the M.A.T., satisfactorily complete the following prerequisite/corequisite
undergraduate courses:
EDUC 290 The Student, the School, and Community
EDUC 299 Introduction to Education
EDUC 300 Foundations of Curriculum and Instruction
ELEM 301 Teaching of Reading in the Elementary School
EDUC 303 Using Technology Effectively in the Classroom
PSY 315 Child Behavior: Growth and Development
EDUC 488/489/490 Student Teaching Block
5. The student should make application for graduation at the beginning of the
semester in which the last course(s) will be taken.
